Now Madrid is waiting to be discovered. After breakfast our local guide will take us on a guided morning tour. The sights are many and offer an unprecedented diversity. We see most of the best that the capital of Spain has to offer. After the tour, it will be time for your own tram. The center of the city is the lively square of Puerta del Sol, the “gate of the sun”, where many historical events have taken place. Nearby is the beautiful Plaza Mayor Square. This portal-lined square, which today is lined with cafes and craft shops, has over the years been the scene of great drama – bullfights, parades and cruel trials. In ancient Madrid there is also the grand royal palace, Palacio Real, which took 26 years to complete. To the east of the old town, Madrid’s bourbon spreads. The rulers of the Bourbon House chose this area when they wanted to expand and beautify the city in the 18th century. Here they built the grand squares with fountains, a triumphal arch and what later became the Prado Museum.
For those interested in art, we today offer a guided tour of the Prado Museum, one of the world’s foremost art museums with over 2,000 works in its art collection. During this two-hour tour, we discover masterpieces by El Greco, Velázquez and Goya, among others, together with our authorized guide. The excursion needs to be pre-booked before departure.
